On April 14, 2014, 36-year-old Jamie R. Johnson was fatally shot at Love's Truck Stop in McCalla, Alabama. The incident occurred during a meeting with his partner's mother, Anita T. Hill, who had expressed concerns about the nature of their relationship. Witnesses reported that as Johnson turned to leave, Hill drew a handgun and shot him once in the back. Johnson was transported to UAB Medical West in grave condition and was pronounced dead shortly upon arrival.
