In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27, 2014, a violent intrusion shattered the peace at the Rondo Apartments on Cottage Hill Road in Mobile, Alabama. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 2:26 a.m., police officers discovered a grim scene. Inside one of the apartments, they found 44-year-old Ronnie Minefield, who had been fatally shot.
A second victim, a 27-year-old female, was also suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders from the Mobile Fire/Rescue Department arrived and pronounced Minefield deceased at the scene. The injured woman was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators soon identified the suspect as 33-year-old Alvin Tillman, the estranged husband of the female victim. It was determined that Tillman had forcibly entered the apartment, shooting both his estranged wife and Minefield.
A search for Tillman ensued, and he was taken into custody by police in the vicinity of Sage Avenue and Airport Boulevard at approximately 5:15 a.m. the same morning. Following an interview with investigators, Alvin Tillman was arrested and faced charges of first-degree burglary, murder, and attempted murder. He was subsequently transported to the Mobile County Metro Jail.
