In the winter of 2014, just two days before he was supposed to move in with his uncle for a fresh start, 16-year-old Larry Flaccamio’s life was cut short. On the evening of December 30th, the male teenager was walking near his home in north Huntsville, Alabama, when he was fatally shot in the back of the head. His body was discovered by someone passing by, located under a yield sign at the intersection of Bridge Road and Mountain Park Circle, only a short distance from his own residence.
He had been released from a juvenile detention facility just a week prior, on December 23rd, and had chosen to spend the holidays with his mother before his planned move.
The investigation into Larry's death has been a long and frustrating journey for his family. Although the Huntsville police were able to collect physical evidence from the scene, the case has remained unsolved for years. Investigators have expressed the need for witnesses to come forward to help build a substantial case against the person or persons responsible. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting.
In the years following her son's death, Larry's mother, Donna Howell, has become a vocal advocate for justice. She has made numerous public pleas, urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and speak with the authorities. In 2015, she established the Larry Flaccamio Foundation in his memory. The foundation aims to provide support to the families of young murder victims and to assist at-risk youth in the community, hoping to prevent other families from experiencing a similar tragedy.
