On March 10, 2015, a tragic event unfolded in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, ending the life of 25-year-old Jarvis Kawanz Bell, a Black / African American male. Bell was discovered inside a Chevrolet Impala, having been fatally shot. The vehicle was located on the 2700 block of Burrell Street, near Slayden Avenue.
At the time of his death, Bell was slated to be a key witness in a 2012 murder case against Jaymee Smith.
Despite this, law enforcement officials indicated that they did not believe his murder was connected to his upcoming testimony. Instead, investigators suspected that Bell's death was the result of a drug deal that had gone wrong.
Jarvis Kawanz Bell was born on January 16, 1990. He was an employee at the Honda Manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Alabama. He was a member of the Lively Hope Baptist Church, where his funeral services were held on March 21, 2015, before his burial at Oakland Cemetery. He was survived by his mother, father, stepfather, two sisters, and a nephew.
The investigation into Bell's homicide has remained open. As of the most recent updates, no arrests have been made in connection with his killing, and the case continues to be unsolved. His death was one of 100 homicides recorded in Birmingham in 2015.
