On March 10, 2015, 25-year-old Jarvis Kawanz Bell was found shot to death inside a Chevrolet Impala on the 2700 block of Burrell Street near Slayden Avenue in Ensley, Birmingham, Alabama.
Bell was expected to testify against Jaymee Smith for the 2012 murder of Jarvis Bell. However, authorities indicated that his murder, which appeared to have resulted from a disputed drug deal, was not believed to be related to his pending testimony.
