On a summer evening in 2015, the life of 20-year-old LaGuy A. Allen Jr. was cut tragically short in a fatal shooting. The incident, which also claimed the life of his close friend, 20-year-old Marqez Lafarion Thomas, unfolded on June 8, 2015, outside a gas station in Prichard, Alabama. Both Allen and Thomas were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Allen was a 2014 graduate of Murphy High School.
His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief through his community and family. He was survived by his mother, LaKisha Hickenbottom, and numerous siblings and other relatives who mourned the profound loss.
In the days following the double homicide, law enforcement officials moved swiftly in their investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 21-year-old Bryan Lamar Moore. With the assistance of U.S. Marshals, Moore was apprehended on June 10, 2015, in the nearby city of Chickasaw.
Following his arrest, Bryan Lamar Moore was charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of LaGuy Allen Jr. and Marqez Lafarion Thomas. While an arrest was made, authorities did not publicly disclose a motive for the shootings. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the untimely deaths of the two young men remained ongoing.
