On December 12, 2015, 33-year-old James Lee Gillard Jr. was fatally shot in Dothan, Alabama. The incident occurred during a confrontation with 24-year-old Andrea Flagg. Flagg was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Gillard's death.
In July 2019, Flagg was erroneously released from prison due to a clerical error. He was subsequently recaptured in Dothan by local police and federal marshals.
