On January 5, 2016, 33-year-old Jonathan Michael "Mike" Gilotti was fatally shot outside his home in Hoover, Alabama, as he was leaving for the gym in the early morning hours. Gilotti, an Iraq War veteran and father of two young boys, encountered an armed suspect near his residence and was shot once during the confrontation.
