On February 27, 2016, 22-year-old Jacob Austin Smith was fatally shot in Opelika, Alabama. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. at a residence on South 4th Street. Opelika Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Smith with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
