In the spring of 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Mobile, Alabama. Khaled al Mashani, a 31-year-old man, was found dead on Saturday, March 26, 2016, inside an apartment at the Turtle Creek Apartment Complex. The discovery of his body launched a homicide investigation that would soon lead to the apprehension of two young suspects.
Investigators quickly identified 20-year-old Terri Grant and 19-year-old Jordan Johnson as persons of interest in the case.
Their alleged involvement in al Mashani's death led to their arrests. Both were subsequently charged with murder, and a judge set their bail at a significant $250,000 each. As the legal process began to unfold, Terri Grant entered a plea of not guilty.
The case against the pair moved through the court system, revealing a complex and ultimately fatal narrative. On March 24, 2017, a Mobile County grand jury indicted both Grant and Jordan Daniel Johnson for the intentional murder of al Mashani. In January 2018, Johnson stood trial and was convicted of intentional murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for his role in the crime. His conviction and sentence were later upheld by an appellate court on August 31, 2018.
Terri Grant's trial commenced in October 2018. During the proceedings, it was established that Grant had been in a recent romantic relationship with al Mashani. Evidence presented during the trial led to a conviction, not for murder, but for the lesser charge of reckless manslaughter. For her part in the events that led to Khaled al Mashani's death, Terri Lynn Grant was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment. Her conviction was affirmed on July 10, 2020.
