In the winter of 2024, a violent and bloody altercation on McCrae Avenue in Mobile, Alabama, resulted in the death of 52-year-old Rodney Tucker. The events leading to the January 24th killing began when one of the defendants reportedly witnessed Tucker assaulting his girlfriend. After she managed to escape the residence and cry out for help, a confrontation ensued between Tucker and three individuals: Carlos Hollis, Jessica Allen, and Charles Pitman.
According to the suspects' account,
the situation escalated when Tucker allegedly threatened them with a machete. Claiming they felt their lives were in danger, the trio contended their actions were in self-defense. Pitman has admitted to disarming Tucker and stabbing him in the rear, while the others are accused of beating him. An autopsy later determined that blunt force trauma was a contributing factor in Tucker's death. Investigators also noted that those involved had reportedly been using drugs the night before the incident.
In the aftermath of the homicide, law enforcement officials launched an investigation that quickly identified the three suspects. Jessica Allen and a man identified in different reports as either Charles or Gilbert Pittman were arrested over a weekend in March. The third suspect, 32-year-old Carlos Hollis, turned himself in to authorities on the evening of March 18, 2024. All three were subsequently charged with murder in connection with the death of Rodney Tucker.
Following their arrests, the legal process began to unfold. During bond hearings, Pittman was granted a $250,000 bond, while Allen received a $200,000 bond, both with the condition of electronic monitoring. The defense has argued that the three suspects found themselves in a hostile situation where they had to defend themselves or risk serious injury or even death. The case then moved toward further court proceedings to determine the culpability of each of the accused in the violent end to Rodney Tucker's life.
