On June 20, 2016, 30-year-old Darnell "Murk" Bush was fatally shot during a robbery at a residence on West Park Avenue in Montgomery, Alabama. Responding officers found Bush deceased at the scene. The Montgomery Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Deskendre Hatcher on June 28, 2016. Hatcher was charged with capital murder and held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
