On March 28, 2017, 18-year-old Quentavious Reese, a senior at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Alabama, was fatally shot while riding in the back seat of a car with three friends. As they drove past a residence, a bullet struck Reese in the head, shattering the vehicle's back windshield. His friends immediately transported him to Russell Medical Center; he was later airlifted to UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
