On December 1, 2020, 18-year-old Cody Lane Motes and his mother, 40-year-old Stephanie Nicole Motes, were fatally shot in their Alexander City, Alabama, home. Authorities identified 24-year-old Ashley Paul Kenney, who resided with the Motes family, as the primary suspect. Following the incident, Kenney fled the scene in a purple Chevy Geo Tracker, which was later found abandoned in Kellyton, Alabama.
