In the summer of 2017, a life was tragically cut short on a street in Mobile, Alabama. Nico Maurice Nichols, a 28-year-old male, was found deceased on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 27, 2017. The incident unfolded in the 2400 block of Dubose Street, where police responded to a call of a person shot at approximately 3:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Nichols suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the death of Nichols, who was remembered by loved ones as a great man and father, quickly pointed to a suspect. Less than a week after the shooting, on July 3, 2017, a 36-year-old man named Leonard Gravesande turned himself in to the authorities. Gravesande was subsequently arrested on a murder warrant in connection with Nichols' death.
Following his arrest, a judge set a bond for Gravesande at $150,000. The case then moved into the judicial system to address the charges brought against him for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Nico Maurice Nichols.
