On July 20, 1960, Deputy Sheriff Horace C. "Pot" Hall of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office in Alabama was fatally shot while serving commitment papers to a mentally ill individual. During the encounter, the suspect attacked Deputy Hall, seized his service revolver, and shot him.
