On a spring afternoon in Mobile, Alabama, the life of Phillip Anthony Glover Jr., a 24-year-old Black man, was cut short by gunfire. The incident unfolded on April 24, 2023, at approximately 1:22 p.m. in the 70 block of LeFevre Street. When Mobile Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Glover had sustained fatal injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to 20-year-old Jordan Miller as the suspect.
Four days after the shooting, on April 28, 2023, Miller turned himself in to authorities at the Mobile Metro Jail. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Phillip Glover.
The legal proceedings that followed did not immediately result in a conviction. After deliberations, the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, leading the judge to declare a mistrial. Prosecutors had alleged that Miller fatally shot Glover, though Miller claimed he acted in self-defense. The Mobile County District Attorney's office now faces the decision of whether to retry the case against Jordan Miller.
