On the evening of April 29, 2021, a burst of violence on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, Alabama, claimed the life of 50-year-old Michael Cannon, a Black/African American male. The incident unfolded as a shooting, leaving Cannon with fatal injuries. He was a certified welder who had moved to Mobile from his native Mississippi, where he was born on June 29, 1970.
The Mobile Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide.
Their efforts quickly led them to a person of interest. Early the following morning, officers apprehended Cyrus King in connection with the fatal shooting. King was subsequently arrested and formally charged with the murder of Michael Cannon. He was then booked into the Mobile Metro Jail.
While an arrest was made, the circumstances that precipitated the deadly encounter have not been disclosed by law enforcement officials. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear to the public as the case proceeds through the legal system. Michael Cannon was survived by his mother, stepfather, father, a son, a daughter, and two grandsons, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
