On August 7, 2017, at approximately 11:30 a.m., 30-year-old Caridad Carol Stripe was fatally shot at the Courtyard Apartments in Decatur, Alabama. First responders found her lying in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Decatur Morgan Hospital Parkway Campus, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
