On Thanksgiving night, November 28, 2019, the life of 42-year-old Latonya Taylor Rasheed was tragically cut short in Decatur, Alabama. A friendly, loving, and caring woman, affectionately known as 'Bootie' by her family and friends, she was a vibrant soul who enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and, most of all, spending time with her three children and six grandchildren.
That evening, at approximately 10 p.m., Decatur Police were dispatched to a residence at 204 4th Avenue NW to check on a woman. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Rasheed with a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Detectives at the scene quickly identified Abdullah Musafa El-Sayyed as the primary suspect. He was located at the residence and taken into custody. Investigators believe that El-Sayyed and Ms. Rasheed were acquainted and that the shooting was an isolated incident.
Following the investigation, Abdullah Musafa El-Sayyed was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Latonya Rasheed. He was subsequently booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
