William Lewis Merritt, a 30-year-old white male, was fatally shot on January 19, 2018, in Bridgeport, Alabama. A former football player for both North Jackson High School and Huntingdon College, Merritt had transitioned from a career in teaching and coaching to working in the construction industry as a pipefitter, superintendent, and structural welder.
