For weeks, he remained under their constant care, a testament to his own will to live and the dedication of those who attended to him. His family and friends waited, hoping for a miracle that was not to be. On March 14, 2018, nearly three weeks after the shooting, Chauncey Blackburn succumbed to his injuries, and a case that began as a violent assault was now a homicide investigation.
In the wake of his death, the Montgomery Police Department officially began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the senseless loss of a young life. The community was left to grapple with the tragedy, mourning the potential of a life cut short. On March 24, 2018, friends and family gathered at the First Baptist Church in Hope Hull, Alabama, to say their final goodbyes to Chauncey Blackburn Jr. He was laid to rest at New Center Cemetery, leaving behind a family seeking justice and a community scarred by violence. To date, public disclosures regarding any potential suspects or arrests in the homicide investigation have not been made.
