In Mobile, Alabama, on the afternoon of March 21, 2018, a young mother's life was tragically cut short. Angelisha Nicole Jones, a 21-year-old Black female, was fatally shot at the Dickens Ferry Apartments. The incident unfolded around 5:05 p.m., after which Jones was rushed to Providence Hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. This act of violence left her two young children, a four-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son, without their mother.
The day before her
death, Jones had reportedly contacted the Mobile Police to report that her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kenneth Smith, had threatened her life. At the hospital where Jones was taken after the shooting, authorities identified Smith as the shooter and took him into custody. He was subsequently charged with her murder. Smith was the father of Jones's youngest child.
Following his arrest, Kenneth Smith was released on bond, a decision that caused distress to Angelisha Jones's family. In the years that followed, the family actively sought justice, but the legal process was fraught with delays. As of October 2021, Smith's trial had been postponed multiple times, contributing to the family's ongoing frustration and prolonging their quest for closure.
