On March 28, 2018, Richard Roberts, a 23-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot in what authorities later confirmed to be a homicide. The incident occurred in the 100 block of 51st Street North, in a neighborhood that had experienced several prior violent crimes. According to law enforcement, Roberts was found suffering from gunshot wounds after officers responded to a call reporting a shooting.
