In the spring of 2018, the life of Cornelious Lamar Tolbert, a 31-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of April 30, 2018, Tolbert was fatally shot during an altercation in the Ensley neighborhood. A father of two, he was an employee of the Birmingham Water Works.
