In the spring of 2018, the life of Cornelious Lamar Tolbert, a 31-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of April 30, 2018, Tolbert was fatally shot during an altercation in the Ensley neighborhood. A father of two, he was an employee of the Birmingham Water Works.
The circumstances surrounding the altercation that led to his death have not been made widely public.
West Precinct officers were the first to arrive at the scene, where they found Tolbert suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service also responded and transported him to a local hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries.
Following the incident, the Birmingham Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the death of Cornelious Tolbert. However, information regarding any suspects or arrests in connection with his murder has not been released.
