On the evening of September 20, 2018, 31-year-old Latricia McDade, a Black female and devoted mother of four, was senselessly killed in Montgomery, Alabama. Earlier in the evening, she had been visiting with her mother and sister. After leaving their residence, she was on her way home, reportedly to prepare her children's clothes for the next day. As she waited in her vehicle at a railroad crossing in the 200 block of Alabama River Parkway, she was struck by gunfire.
The shooting occurred at approximately 8:21 p.m.
First responders arrived to find McDade in her vehicle with a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was quickly transported to Jackson Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Latricia McDade succumbed to her injuries later that night. Her family believes she was an innocent bystander, tragically caught in the crossfire of an argument between at least two other individuals. Authorities have echoed this sentiment, stating that it appears individuals were shooting at each other from across the railroad tracks when McDade was hit by a stray bullet.
In the years that have followed, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have been made in connection with her death. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials continue to seek assistance from the public to bring those responsible to justice. In an effort to generate new leads, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has offered a $5,000 cash reward for any information that leads to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible for Latricia McDade's death. Her family continues to grieve and seek answers, hoping that someone will come forward with the information needed to close this tragic case and provide justice for a mother taken too soon.
