On the morning of March 11, 2019, the quiet of a Montgomery, Alabama neighborhood was broken when police and fire medics responded to a call in the 2800 block of Fairwest Street. There, near Carver Elementary School, they discovered the body of 31-year-old Laquanda Parker, a Black female resident of Montgomery. She had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The discovery, made at approximately 7:07 a.m., immediately prompted the Montgomery Police Department to launch a homicide investigation into her death.
In the days that followed the tragic event, those who knew Laquanda Parker mourned her loss. Her funeral services were held on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the Chapel of Ross-Clayton Funeral Home, followed by her interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. The community was left seeking answers as the circumstances surrounding her violent death remained a mystery. Despite the ongoing investigation, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with her murder.
Years later, the case of Laquanda Parker's death has grown cold, but efforts to find justice have not ceased. The investigation remains open, and law enforcement continues to seek information from the public. To encourage new leads, the Montgomery County Cold Case Task Force and CrimeStoppers have increased the reward for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect to $5,000. Her family and community continue to await a resolution, holding out hope that those responsible for her death will be brought to justice.
