In the summer of 2020, the life of 13-year-old Ceyeria Lee was tragically cut short in Montgomery, Alabama. On the afternoon of August 17th, Ceyeria, a young female, was at Oak Park on Forest Avenue with her twin sister, preparing for dance practice. What should have been a routine day turned into a nightmare when she suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency services responded to the scene around 4 p.m.
and transported her to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury, but she ultimately succumbed to the wound.
The individual responsible for Ceyeria's death was identified as 17-year-old Andie Dollerson. Reports indicate that Dollerson was showing a handgun to Ceyeria and her sister. Believing the weapon to be unloaded after removing the magazine, he pointed it at Ceyeria and pulled the trigger. Tragically, a bullet remained in the chamber, and the resulting shot struck the young girl in the heart. The incident was described by Ceyeria's mother as a reckless act, stating, 'He was just playin'... He thought he was being cool.'
Following the shooting, Andie Dollerson was promptly arrested and taken into custody on the same day. He was initially charged with murder, though this was later specified as manslaughter. Dollerson, who was 20 years old at the time of his plea, admitted guilt to the charge of manslaughter in March 2023. He was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in prison. However, in a development that caused significant distress to Ceyeria's family, Dollerson was released from prison after serving less than three years of his sentence. The early release, occurring just days before the anniversary of Ceyeria's death, was met with disbelief and disappointment from her loved ones.
