On Christmas Day in 2018, the holiday cheer in Montgomery, Alabama was shattered for one family by an act of violence that claimed the life of 34-year-old Joshua Gentry. A resident of Prattville, Gentry was discovered deceased in a residential area of the city, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The Montgomery Police Department swiftly ruled his death a homicide and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
