On a Friday afternoon in Bessemer, Alabama, a dispute tragically escalated, ending the life of 25-year-old Carterrius Jamez Lowe. The Black/African American male was fatally shot on February 15, 2019. The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of 24th Street South.
Following the altercation, Shaniqua Moore, who was 27 at the time, is said to have retrieved a firearm and shot Lowe.
Emergency services transported Lowe to UAB Hospital's Trauma Center in Birmingham, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Authorities quickly took Moore into custody at the scene of the shooting. A handgun was also recovered, and a vehicle was towed away as part of the investigation. Moore was subsequently charged with capital murder in connection with Lowe's death.
