In the early morning hours of February 25, 2019, the life of 30-year-old Michael Irvin Jr. was tragically cut short in his Decatur, Alabama, home. A graduate of Decatur High School where he was active in sports, and the owner of a trucking company, Irvin was a father of three. His life was taken from him when he was shot multiple times during a home invasion on Marion Street SW. The violent intrusion unfolded while his fiancée and two of his children, ages four and eight, were present in the house. His young daughter tragically witnessed the events.
The investigation into the murder of the male victim led to the arrests of two men, Zachary Williams and Ulyssiz Wilkerson, who were both charged with capital murder. The case against Williams proceeded to trial, and in December 2022, a Morgan County jury found him not guilty of the charges. Following his acquittal, Williams was released from custody.
The legal journey for the second suspect, Ulyssiz Wilkerson, took a different path. He was also facing three counts of capital murder. As of early 2023, a trial date for Wilkerson had not yet been scheduled. However, by February 2025, it was reported that Wilkerson had entered into a plea agreement. This deal significantly altered the legal outcome, reducing his capital murder charge to the lesser offense of conspiracy to commit murder.
