In the late hours of a Thursday in Mobile, Alabama, the life of 18-year-old Tycory Crawford, a Black male, was cut short by a sudden burst of violence. On March 28, 2019, while inside his residence in the 2500 block of Courtney Street South, Crawford was struck by multiple gunshots fired from outside the home. An unknown individual had fired through the front window, turning a place of presumed safety into a crime scene.
Emergency services were called, and Crawford was rushed to a local
hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The initial investigation by the Mobile Police Department determined that the shooting was a homicide.
In the months that followed, the case of Tycory Crawford's death remained without a resolution. By December 2019, the Mobile Police Department publicly listed his case among other unsolved homicides, appealing to the community for any information that might lead to an arrest. A cash reward was offered in the hope that it would encourage witnesses or those with knowledge of the crime to come forward.
Years later, the shadow of Crawford's unsolved murder lingered, particularly as his family faced further tragedy. In October 2021, his brother was a victim in a separate shooting incident.
