William Dee Paul, a 71-year-old Caucasian male, died on May 6, 2022, in Mobile, Alabama, in a tragic event that unfolded at his long-time place of employment. On that Friday morning, at approximately 10:12 a.m., officers from the Mobile Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at Gulf City Body and Trailer Works located on South Conception Street.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered a grim scene.
Inside the business, they found one man already deceased and another with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The injured man was identified as William Paul. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The other individual was identified as 76-year-old Robert Abercrombie.
The subsequent investigation by the Mobile Police Department determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. It was concluded that Robert Abercrombie shot William Paul before turning the gun on himself. As the perpetrator took his own life at the scene, there were no arrests to be made in connection with Paul's death. The investigation concluded with Abercrombie identified as the sole suspect in the shooting of William Paul.
