Michael Campbell, a 47-year-old male from Karnack, Texas, tragically died on April 8, 2018. The circumstances surrounding his death were part of a larger incident that led to a significant investigation and legal proceedings.

On the evening of April 8, 2018, Harrison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a 911 call about a man attempting to break into a home in the 2500 block of Pine Island Rd in Karnack. The caller reported that a white male was trying to force his way into the residence, and there was yelling in the background. When deputies arrived, they found the man on the front porch with a gun, pointing it at them. In response, the deputies fired at the man, ultimately shooting him. Medical aid was provided at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment. The Texas Department of Public Safety's Ranger Division was called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

The man who was shot was later identified as Michael Campbell. The investigation revealed that Campbell had broken into the home and was armed at the time of the incident. The deputies claimed they acted in self-defense, as Campbell pointed a gun at them. The incident raised questions about the use of force by law enforcement and led to a thorough examination of the events leading up to Campbell's death.

In the aftermath of the shooting, an Arkansas man named Michael Clevenger, aged 51, was implicated in the incident. Clevenger, from Little Rock, pleaded guilty to the murder of Michael Campbell and was sentenced to 40 years in a Texas state prison. Additionally, he was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the same incident. The legal proceedings and Clevenger's guilty plea brought some closure to the case, but the incident continued to be a point of discussion regarding law enforcement practices and the use of deadly force.

The death of Michael Campbell and the subsequent legal actions against Michael Clevenger highlighted the complexities and challenges faced by law enforcement in high-stakes situations. The case also underscored the importance of thorough investigations and accountability in incidents involving the use of force by police officers.
