In a quiet home in north Spokane, the life of 8-year-old Isabelle Asker was tragically cut short on November 16, 2023. On that day, a father returned to his residence on West Woodside Avenue to a scene of unimaginable horror. Inside, he discovered the bodies of his two young daughters, his wife, and even the family pets.
Isabelle, a young female, was found deceased alongside her older sister, 10-year-old Calissa Asker.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that both girls had died from gunshot wounds to the head, and their deaths were ruled as homicides. The girls, who were being home-schooled but had previously been students at Balboa Elementary, were remembered by neighbors as often playing outside with their dog.
The investigation into the devastating event pointed towards a murder-suicide. Law enforcement officials identified the girls' mother, 43-year-old Michelle Asker, as the suspect in their deaths. The medical examiner determined that Michelle Asker also died from a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a suicide. As the sole suspect in the homicides of her children, no arrests were made in the case. The Spokane police's initial investigation suggested that the mother had killed her two children before taking her own life.
