On the evening of March 28, 2019, a fatal altercation occurred in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Trussville, Alabama. Randy Dewayne Young, 40, was at the establishment with his stepfather, Robert Shepard. As they were waiting for a to-go order, Shepard stepped outside to smoke, while Young remained inside to complete the payment.
