On a summer evening in Dothan, Alabama, the life of Akheem Benjamin Hall, a 27-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 9, 2019, police responded to a report of a firearm assault in the 100 block of Naomi Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Hall lying deceased in the yard, having been shot twice in the forearm and upper back. Despite the efforts of rescue personnel who responded to the scene, his life could not be saved.
Investigators began speaking with witnesses and soon
identified a suspect in the shooting. They publicly sought 23-year-old Tayshawn Malik Stevenson for questioning in connection with Hall's death. The investigation revealed that an altercation earlier in the day played a significant role in the fatal events. Stevenson's mother, Ms. Rowell, had been involved in a dispute with Hall and was subsequently arrested for her part in the incident. Authorities stated that she was instrumental in her son going to Naomi Drive, which ultimately led to the shooting.
Tayshawn Malik Stevenson was eventually apprehended and faced legal proceedings for his role in Akheem Benjamin Hall's death. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. For this, he received a 15-year sentence, with a stipulation that he would serve three years in prison, and the remainder of the sentence would be on probation. In November 2025, while on probation, Stevenson found himself in trouble with the law once again. He was arrested on new charges including attempting to elude, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest, leaving his future freedom in jeopardy as prosecutors reviewed whether this new arrest would result in the revocation of his probation and require him to serve the rest of his manslaughter sentence in state prison.
