In Dothan, Alabama, on the evening of April 29, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Johnnie Khaseem Settle, a 27-year-old male, was discovered in the 700 block of Alabama Avenue suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital by a private vehicle, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Dothan Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit and Forensic Services Unit immediately launched a
homicide investigation. As detectives canvassed the area and processed the scene, they began to piece together the events that led to Settle's untimely death. Their efforts were bolstered by members of the community who came forward with crucial information. Multiple witnesses were able to provide investigators with a description of the shooter, setting the investigation on a swift path.
Less than a week later, on the evening of May 4, 2021, a breakthrough was made in the case. Investigators, acting on the information they had gathered, took a suspect into custody. The individual arrested in connection with the murder of Johnnie Settle was a 14-year-old juvenile. The teenage suspect was charged with murder in juvenile court and subsequently placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center. Due to the suspect's age, authorities did not release any further identifying information. The Dothan Police Department publicly thanked the community for their assistance in bringing a quick resolution to the investigation.
