On January 1, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Sheffield Police responded to a robbery call in the Manning Homes area. Upon arrival, officers discovered 49-year-old James Darrell McDaniel lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
