On January 7, 2018, 26-year-old Chad Edwin Gardner was fatally shot in the front yard of a residence on Southeast 17th Street in Sheffield, Alabama. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM and involved an altercation between Gardner and Chance Thompson. Both men were initially seated in their vehicles when Gardner exited his car and struck Thompson. The confrontation escalated, leading to Gardner being shot multiple times.
