In the afternoon hours of February 23, 2020, the North Little Rock Police Department responded to a call of a shooting in the 1800 block of Ben Street. Upon their arrival, at approximately 12:45 p.m., they discovered two deceased adult Black males who had been shot. One of the victims was located inside a residence at 1807 Ben Street, while the other was found on the ground outside.
The victims were identified as 44-year-old Avery Cooksey and 39-year-old Fred Wesson, both of North Little
Rock. Cooksey, a male, was born on March 5, 1975, and passed away on February 23, 2020. He was a father and is survived by his daughter, mother, and sister.
Detectives with the North Little Rock Police Department promptly began a homicide investigation into the double homicide. As of the most recent available information, the investigation is still ongoing. No suspects have been publicly identified or named in connection with the deaths of Avery Cooksey and Fred Wesson, and no arrests have been made. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
