In the early hours of a September morning, the quiet of a Sheffield, Alabama neighborhood was broken by a discovery that would soon unfold into a story of sudden violence and a search for justice. Thomas James Hairrell, a 64-year-old male, was found deceased near the front door of his residence on West Montgomery Avenue on September 26, 2023. An investigation by the Sheffield Police Department was promptly launched after they received a call around 5 a.m. It was soon determined that Hairrell had been the victim of a homicide, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. His body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to confirm the cause of death.
As investigators began to piece together the events leading to Hairrell's death, a suspect was identified within a couple of days. The Sheffield Police Chief publicly named 40-year-old Dedrick Deshann Pride as the individual they were searching for in connection with the murder. In a Colbert County courtroom, Pride pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
