In the quiet of an East Birmingham evening on January 8, 2020, the life of Sgt. 1st Class Tristian AnTwuan Jackson, a 36-year-old U.S. Army recruiter, was tragically cut short. Gunfire shattered the peace in the garage area of his home on Killough Springs Road. Despite being wounded, Jackson managed to make his way into his house before collapsing in the living area.
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
A decorated soldier who had served for 18 years after enlisting out of high school, Tristian was known by family and friends as a man who enjoyed entertaining and showcasing his cooking and grilling skills. His death left behind a daughter, his parents, and his sisters. His mother, Dianna Jackson, expressed her profound grief and confusion, stating, 'My son had no enemies that he knew of, that I knew of. I want to know who, and I want to know why.'
The investigation into the homicide was taken up by the Birmingham Police Department and the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigation Division. However, the case has been met with significant challenges, including a lack of witness cooperation and limited evidence from the scene, which has slowed progress. As of early 2023, more than three years after the fatal shooting, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
