In the early hours of a Sunday morning in a quiet, remote area of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, the life of 43-year-old Stephanie Megan Sheppard came to a tragic end. On August 9, 2020, events unfolded inside her home on Poplar Springs Road, north of Brookwood, that would leave her family and community mourning her loss. The initial call to authorities came not from a concerned neighbor, but from her own husband, James William Sheppard, then 42 years old.
