In July of 2017, the body of 23-year-old Jennifer Nevin, a mother, was discovered by a gas well worker on the side of Watermelon Road in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The discovery launched a swift investigation by the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, who worked to piece together the final days of her life.
Within a day, investigators arrested three individuals in connection with her death: 23-year-old Koran Rashad Lewis, 16-year-old Kendrick Ky'Andre Marshall, and 20-year-old Vida Milagros
Confetti. All three were charged with murder. The investigation revealed that the suspects and Nevin had been at a party in Cottondale. Confetti and Marshall later confessed to beating and shooting Nevin, claiming they did so because they feared she was setting them up to be robbed. Lewis admitted that his gun was used in the commission of the crime. Authorities believe Confetti, who was a friend of Nevin's, persuaded her to get into a vehicle with the other suspects. They then drove to a secluded area off Watermelon Road where Nevin was beaten, kicked, and shot four times.
In the years following the murder, the legal process unfolded for the three individuals charged. In July 2022, Kendrick Ky'Andre Marshall, who was 16 at the time of the killing, pleaded guilty to capital murder. Due to the severity of the charge, he was expected to be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving a minimum of 30 years. In August 2022, Vida Milagros Confetti-Duenas also pleaded guilty to capital murder during the course of a kidnapping and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The trial for the third suspect, Koran Rashad Lewis, was reported to be underway in March 2023.
