In the spring of 2022, the life of a young Tuscaloosa mother was tragically cut short. Tacara Lashon Moton-Wynn, a 27-year-old Black female, was found deceased on the night of Thursday, March 17, 2022. The Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to a call about a shooting at approximately 11 p.m. in the 3500 block of McKenzie Avenue, within the McKenzie Court apartment complex. Upon their arrival, they discovered Tacara Moton, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into her death quickly led to a suspect. Jonathan Lawayne Peebles, a 38-year-old man who was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Moton, was taken into custody at the scene. After investigators from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit processed the scene, gathered evidence, and interviewed witnesses, Peebles was charged with manslaughter in connection with her death. Authorities confirmed that Moton's death was being investigated as a homicide and appeared to be related to domestic issues.
Tacara Moton was a mother to a young daughter and was described as someone who loved to dance, shop, and spend time with her friends and family. Her family, including her mother, Latissa Moton-Hunter, and her father, Willie Cephus Wynn, were left to mourn the sudden and violent loss. Funeral services were held for Tacara on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Christ Baptist Church, with her burial following at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
