In a tragic turn of events on the night of November 10, 2025, 20-year-old Black female Kaliyah Houston was fatally shot in her Tuscaloosa, Alabama, apartment. The violence that erupted also claimed the life of her 16-year-old sister and left a 17-year-old male seriously injured.
The incident unfolded at the Woodlawn Manor apartments, where Houston had been allowing 19-year-old Keshawn Jermichael Woods to live for several months.
An argument between Houston and Woods escalated, leading to Woods allegedly producing a handgun and opening fire. Both Houston and her sister were pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old male victim was able to flee the apartment and get help. Tragically, several young children, including an infant, were present in the apartment during the shooting but were physically unharmed.
Following the shooting, Woods fled the scene on foot. However, he was located and apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Task Force just hours later. Woods has been charged with two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
