On October 17, 2020, 35-year-old Lamar Dontaye Whittaker was fatally shot in Phenix City, Alabama. The incident occurred while Whittaker was assisting a stranded motorist near 10th Avenue South and 4th Place South. Authorities believe he was not the intended target of the shooting. Whittaker, also known as Dontaye, left behind a son and an extended sports family.
