On May 25, 2024, 34-year-old Jacob "Jake" Sanes of Smiths Station, Alabama, was fatally shot at Aces Bar and Grill in Phenix City. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when officers from the Phenix City Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at the establishment located at 3928 US Highway 80 West. Upon arrival, they discovered Sanes deceased from a gunshot wound.
