In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 25, 2024, a deadly shooting occurred in Phenix City, Alabama. The victim was identified as Jacob Daniel Sanes, a 34-year-old Caucasian male from Smiths Station, Alabama. The incident that led to Sanes' death took place at Ace's Bar and Grill, located on U.S. Highway 80 in the Ladonia community. Gunfire was reported at approximately 1:00 A.M., and Jacob Sanes was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:15 A.M.
Following an investigation into the fatal
shooting, an arrest was made. Jeffrey Aaron Spurlock, 42 years old, was taken into custody in connection with the death of Sanes. Jail records show that Spurlock was booked into the county jail on a charge of Homicide-Capital Murder. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
Jacob Sanes was a father of two sons. Born on February 28, 1990, at Fort Hood, Texas, he was a United States Army veteran who had served in the Afghanistan Campaign. At the time of his death, he was employed as a Maintenance Technician for the Fort Moore School District. His family remembered him as a caring and kind person with a great sense of humor who was devoted to his children.
