Wendell DeAndre Pullom was known by his loved ones as "Dreday," a 24-year-old Black man remembered as a loving and giving family man with a heart of gold. His life, along with that of another young man, was cut short in his hometown of Selma, Alabama, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2020.
On the morning of Friday, November 27, police were called to a home in the Selmont area, on the 1300 block of Ceola Miller Avenue. Inside, they made a grim discovery.
Both Wendell and another man, 28-year-old Johnny Bonner III, were found unresponsive. Each had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and authorities pronounced both men dead at the scene.
The Selma Police Department immediately began a double homicide investigation. It did not take long for authorities to name a person of interest in the case. They identified 41-year-old Roderick Shontell Harrison, a resident of Selma, as the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of Pullom and Bonner, and a search for him was initiated.
The search for Harrison came to an end less than a week later. On Wednesday, December 2, Harrison turned himself in to police. He was taken into custody and subsequently arrested. Authorities charged him with capital murder for the deaths of the two men. At the time, Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson confirmed the gravity of the charge, noting that under state law, "Killing two people constitutes capital murder in Alabama."
Following Harrison's surrender and arrest, the Selma Police Department stated that their investigation into the double murder was still active and would continue. The case against Roderick Harrison was set to move forward through the justice system. As of December 2020, Harrison had been charged and was in custody.
