In the quiet community of Piney Chapel, near Athens, Alabama, a grim discovery was made in the early morning hours of March 29, 2021. David Jonathan Thornton, a 51-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased in his home, the victim of fatal gunshot wounds to his head and chest. The Limestone County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 3 a.m., and the investigation into his death quickly focused on someone very close to him.
