On March 29, 2021, in the Piney Chapel community near Athens, Alabama, 51-year-old David Jonathan Thornton was found deceased in his home from gunshot wounds to the chest and head. The Limestone County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 3 a.m. and discovered his body.
